Recommendations

I know I am getting in early but it might cheer me up a bit to do some long range planning. Last year, I had a great time in the US - going to San Francisco for WWDC and then on to New York to enjoy July 4th (I toured new New York during the day and watched the fireworks near the Statue of Liberty at night*).

So, assuming that I get to WWDC next year, where should I go for July 4th afterwards? Recommendations and suggestions appreciated...

Some ideas are:
1. Texas (I hear that it is sort of like Australia with bigger hats)
2. New England (sort of greener with lots of rude drivers)
3. Florida (sort of swampy with alligators)
4. Canada (sort of snowy and not really America)

Remember, I have only been to three cities in the US: San Francisco, San José and New York.

Naturally, I would be interested in meeting up with other bloggers as well...

[* Feeling guilty that my host had squippered her ankle during the day tour and was unable to enjoy the night air and the crowds...]

What about seeing more of Oz before you travel to the US?

You really don't want to see more of me. That kilt picture was enough for anyone :-)

When I was stationed near Chicago I use to be in the 4th parades,(carrying the flag). So I would see the fireworks over Solider Field, and they were always pretty good.

OK. One vote for Chicago. Thanks for the recommendation.

Hmmm. There is an invisible comment from Mind of Mog:

New England is nice in the summer although one never knows when it will be sunny or rainy. Lots to see, historic stuff.
I wouldn't recommend Arizona unless you want to bask (die) in triple digit heat, northern Arizona is cooler, Grand Canyon and all that, lot of pretty country.
I would have recommended Texas, would go there myself but my favorite blogger (Edloe) died and it wouldn't be the same without her.

That looks like +1 for New England, -1 for Arizona and -1 for Texas :-)

Hmm... let's see. How about Montana, Wyoming, or the Dakotas (North and South)... or you could go to New Mexico... or just give it up and return to NYC.
:-)

Maybe you could visit Redmond and do the same thing all the Labor / Union guys used to do at Fraser's place - you might not have told that story on the blog...

Go to West Virginia. It's cool in the mountains and they have the Annual Roadkill Cookoff.

But what sort of roadkill do they get? Emu/kangaroo/snake are common here and I have tried them all. What would constitute roadkill in West Virginia?

Now Montana is cattle right? Sort of like Texas but with smaller hats.
Dakotas - something to do with "badlands"?

New Mexico? No idea - in fact I didn't even know there was a New Mexico.

I could see NYC again but that would mean missing out on seeing something new. Mind you though, there is probably a whole lot more of NYC that I didn't see. Maybe I just need to book this great tour guide that I met last time :-)
