Week from h*ll
The week just passed has not exactly been a fun week... most of the problems stem from work. I have been "promoted" - instead of being a "team leader", I am now a "manager". This apparently means I keep doing all the things I used to do with the added bonus of being held responsible for everything that goes wrong. There is no addition in pay, delegation or authority - just more responsibility.
The only carrot is "maybe a bit more in the KPI bonus". The KPI bonus being an annual set of goals set by my manager (first meeting), set by me (second meeting), all long term/multi-week projects (third meeting), that have to be completed this quarter (fourth meeting), and can't include any existing work (fifth meeting).
Let me get this straight. I was already working 50-60 hour weeks with some calls (I was 3rd in the escalation chain). This week (including after-hours calls) I have passed 70 hours and I am currently 2nd in the escalation chain. Frankly that is not an improvement. Twice this week I was on the verge of getting Johnny Paycheck to do my negotiating.
Basically, due to a number of reasons, I am short-staffed. Instead of having all my engineers - some are on leave, some are working in the warehouse and the rest are at the end of their tethers. Instead of facing the mess he created, my boss "promotes" me so that I can be responsible for the forthcoming meltdown.
You reach a point where the money becomes irrelevant - I am old, I need my sleep without being woken up in the night (every night). I need a new job and I need it quickly....

There ARE benefits to being a peon.
