Fortune of the Day

"What's that thing?"
"Well, it's a highly technical, sensitive instrument we use in computer repair. Being a layman, you probably can't grasp exactly what it does. We call it a two-by-four."

In the Navy we use to use the "Float Test". You would throw it overboard about amidships to see if it floats. I have no clue what to do if it floats never had a piece of gear float. But if it doesn't float you list it as lost at sea and buy a new one. America's tax dollars at work.

Matthew: That explains an inside joke that I never understood when I was working on a navy contract. I was talking about how great these new computer systems were and the navy bloke kept asking about the float test - no explanation provided.

MommaBear: That would be a LART (Luser Attitude Readjustment Tool). I have one - a wooden 50cm (18 inches?) with a metal strip in one edge. I will make sure I don't leave it behind when I clear out my desk....
