Replacing an A1000 battery

This procedure is taken from Sun document 805-7758-13 (which was very hard to find). It covers the replacement of a battery which has not yet failed:

  1. Turn off the cache and make sure the LED is OFF
  2. Swap the battery out
  3. Reset the battery age:
    # raidutil -cdevice_name -R
  4. Wait 15 minutes and then run the Recovery Guru to verify that everything is fine
  5. Turn the cache back on again
Note that the cache will begin operating again after the battery is fully charged (which make take some time).

If your battery is completely dead then you need to shut down your A1000 and remove the power. Swap the battery out, power everything back on and start from Step 3 above.
