If I were a NetHack monster, I would be a tengu. I'm always in the right place at the right time, and am quick to avoid people that I'd rather not be with.

I'd be a floating eye. (And yes, I do know what NetHack is. I have even been known to play it. Recently.)

I used to have a lot of trouble with floating eyes (from memory - must be five years since I played). I would wack the lower level ones with brute force (rather than spells) and forget that as I got deeper that method stopped working. Oh well, I'm sure you'd be a very nice floating eye and give a poor adventurer a chance to get past you to the stairs.

I would always run out of things to throw at the floating eye, try giving it one whack with my sword/dagger/axe/whatever, and get frozen until I starved to death. Ah, Nethack. I'm a dwarf. Or possibly a shopkeeper.
