Strine Animals - Cassowary

Time for another shot of an Australian animal. Note that this is a CASSOWARY - it is not an emu (which is another flightless Australian bird). When standing with head errect, this bird is taller than I am (6 foot).

You're kidding? 6 feet??? I already have a version of "Birds" in my imagination starring these scary creatures ;-)

Only larger bird (AFAIK) is the ostrich (well the moa as well but it is extinct). They are not exactly pretty birds and the hair/feathers are full of dust. The big lump on the head enables them to run through rainforst without braining themselves.

I was recently reading about a resort where some cassowaries were attacking cars - especially maroon or darker blue cars. The resort wants to kill the birds, but guests are less than enthusiastic about the idea - unless it was THEIR cars that were damaged.

I missed that story but I can believe it. The birds are not all that bright but they are big and bulky enough to do some damage, There have been similar guest/management resort stories about dingos and roos as well. Hat tip to Scott Adams: If I say "dingo dog" do I get more readers?

I don't know about the dingo dog thing, but why not?
